Getting Around On St. CroixGetting to St. Croix:Most of the major North American and European air carriers fly into San Juan, Puerto Rico (airport code: SJU), the main connecting city for further flights into the Caribbean. If you are coming from Europe you will probably also connect through one of the major eastern U.S. cities such as New York, Newark, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, or Miami. Some carriers also fly directly into St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. (airport code: STT) where you have the option of taking either the Mermaid Fast Ferry or Virgin Islands Fast Ferry service to St. Croix. If you arrive in San Juan or on another Caribbean island there are regional airlines with frequent services to St. Croix (airport code: STX). The largest are Cape Air (alliance: Delta) , and American Eagle (alliance: American Airlines). The alliances between these regional airlines and major carriers afford you more convenient connecting times, the luxury of checking your baggage all the way through to St. Croix, and the ability to accrue those all-important frequent flyer miles for the total trip. However, the regional airline fares are low enough that it may be cheaper to fly another airline into the Caribbean and then take an inter-island flight. Honestly, because St. Croix is more secluded than some other islands, like Jamaica or the Bahamas, or depending on what area you are traveling from, you may have to pay a little more for airfare to reach it. So ask yourself "what am I looking for in the perfect vacation destination"? If your answer is a laid-back, un-crowded island with great food, incredible white sand beaches, warm seas full of tropical fish, and lots of interesting things to do, then you will find a trip to St. Croix well worth it. And we're not the only ones who think so! For our previous guests opinions about their vacations check out our Guest Comments page, which includes the following comment: "Having spent a considerable amount of money on this, we personally think this is the vacation that has given us most bang for the bucks, ever. That says a lot, because we travel MUCH. This was a bargain in many ways." However, there are also many good airfare deals available. In conjunction with Caribbean Villa Owners Association we are able to offer our clients bulk airfares. Click here to obtain a free quote from them. Another good resource for airfares is Travel Now, based in Colorado. Their telephone number is +1-303-799-3424, ask for John. Need help? Call or email us, we are always happy to try and answer any questions or assist in any way. Ferry Service between St. Thomas and St. Croix
Getting around on St. Croix:St. Croix Car Rental Agencies: We recommend Judi of Croix for auto rentals. Please email them for an estimate and mention Villa Soleil when inquiring. Most of the rental agencies on the island offer free pick-up and delivery at the airport. Ask when making your reservations. Drivers are usually required to be a minimum of 25 years of age. U.S. drivers need a valid driver's license, others can purchase a temporary license. Taxis: There are always taxis awaiting arrivals at the airport on St. Croix. Taxi stands are also located in Christiansted on King Street or in Frederiksted on Strand Street. Taxi service can always be pre-arranged by calling the St. Croix Taxi Association - 340-778-1088. All rates are by zone, not by meter, and are set by the local taxi commission. Every taxi driver should carry a rate card.
